We are pleased to announce that ‘Peter Duck’ has been shortlisted in the Classic Boat Awards 2024 in the Restoration of the Year (Under 40ft) category. Voting is open until the 11th of March 2024.

Designed by the famous Jack Laurent Giles, built at Harry King’s Boatyard at Pin Mill, Suffolk, and launched in April 1947 for Arthur Ransome, her time in the ownership of the Swallows and Amazons author was brief and the majority of her life has been as a well-loved member of 4 generations of the Jones Family, she inspired the successful Peter Duck Class of yachts (38 built), has provided the creative refuge and inspiration for many works of fact and fiction and spent several years exploring the Baltic Sea whilst based in St. Petersburg – a well-travelled and exciting life deserving of some TLC to keep her at her best!

In April 2021, we commenced a major refit of the yacht ‘Peter Duck’. ‘Peter Duck’, referred to by the yard and her owners as ‘PD’, is a long-time resident of the River Deben and has long wintered in Woodbridge. Whilst her maintenance is usually carried out by her devoted custodian, author and publisher Julia Jones, this time around more serious and extensive works were required. Following almost a year of work, it was decided in 2022 to allow ‘PD’ a gentle summer in the river to allow her and her owner’s bank account time to take up again before tackling the last of the works, the replacement of her keelbolts and re-bedding of her keel. Finally re-launched complete in Summer 2023, ‘Peter Duck’ returned to being a staple of the river and a member of the Jones family for many more years to come.
